The past few days have been absolutely gorgeous! Weather like this reminds me of all the great TGE trips from last summer, and gets me looking forward to this summer. Below I have highlighted some TGE adventures as well as some new adventures:
Quabbin Reservoir
We will definitely be touring both sides of Quabbin this year. View some of last fall's pictures and videos and you will see why. Having 2-3 boats out on the water at once is a lot of fun. If you have never been boating on Quabbin, I highly recommend it.
Bash Bish Falls

This place is a must-see. A little out of the way in the SW corner of the state, the stunning mountains and waterfalls make it well worth the drive. Hopefully we can get a larger group to join us when we return this summer.
Mt. Watatic

The view from Mt. Watatic is incredible. Located in North-Central Massachusetts, you can see 4 states. Possibly even more if the conditions are right. It's relatively easy to reach the summit and is a popular spot for hikers in the summer months.
Bear Swamp

The Bear Swamp and Brookfield Power Facility trip was fun and was one where the day just wasn't long enough. After touring the power plant facility (where we learned of the Glory Hole), we followed Charlie's directions to a trail on the Bear Swamp side of the river (see map). Known commonly to us as "Charlie's Trail", the Fife Brook Overlook trail is a difficult hike. About a mile long, it traverses the broadside of a fairly steep hill. Ankle support is recommended! We almost got caught in a nasty storm while standing on top of a mountain cliff but we were spared.
The image below is from the top of one of the hills, on the powerline trail. It's purpose remains unknown to us. Any ideas?

Mt. Monadnock

We have not yet been to Mt. Monadnock. It is a serious hike and we must start early in the day. I really want to get this one under our belt this year. The picture above was taken from Quabbin Reservoir.
Savoy Mountain State Forest
Another highly-touted yet never visited destination is Savoy Mountain. The description highlights several waterfalls and a 50-foot chasm. We need to check this place out.
Mt. Greylock State Reservation

Mt. Greylock is one of those places that everyone knows about, mostly because it is the highest point in Massachusetts. The Green Explorers have not yet conquered this mountain, but we have seen it on a few occasions. The picture above was taken from Mt. Everett in Mt. Washington, MA.
