This is a "Jet Jeep".  The engines are small pulsejets on the ends of the rotors.

Actually the program was cancelled due to the noise.  It was supposed to be forward deployable via truck, or towed by a jeep for observation/FAC purposes, but due to the noise it did more to give away friendly positions.  Very cool idea though.

That thing had to sound horrendous when it was flying!? Have you ever heard a pulse jet running? They used to speed race pulse jet powered control line airplanes at the Academy of Model Aeronautics Nationals every year. They're LOUD.
