Day one - Christmas Day 2014. Holdover plants from Summer 2014. Kept in minimal natural light (indoor) and allowed to shed all leaves since taking off deck prior to first frost. Pruned dead ends, and now on 18 hour daily light cycle to promote new vegetative growth. Rear Row L to R: Habanero Pepper, Bell Pepper, Rosemary, Thyme - Middle Row L to R: Ghost Pepper, Sage, Tarragon, Chives - Front Row L to R: Cherry Bomb Pepper, Parsley, Marjoram.

Day 16 - Jan 11, 2015. Ghost pepper plant did not regenerate, as well as Marjoram, and Tarragon. All others are re-growing foliage, Parsley and Chives bounced back amazingly well. Added 2 basil plants to container that previously held Ghost pepper.

Chives are very hardy and spread everywhere if planted outdoors. Actually it is very difficult to get rid of them. Basil and rosemary are also very hardy. Great job.... 1 comment |

14-16 hours of daily light, (no timer yet just when I get up and go to bed) and one application of fertilizer on Jan 1. 1 tbs to 1 gallon mix of 2-1-6 Hydro grow nutrient mix. Watering approx 1 pint per container every 2 days. Lights easily maintain 70 degrees at soil surface, ambient in house 64.

We should develop a soil moisture sensor with a control back to an electronic water valve (with hysteresis!) to automate the process.... 4 comments |
