This MH53 "Pave Low" was retired in 2008, after it's last combat mission in Iraq. Before that however, early in it's career, before the MH conversion, when it was a CH53 it participated in the Son Tay POW raid in 1970, callsign "Apple one".

The cold war portion of the museum was by far the best part. This part was even more dimly lit, much of the lighting relfected by the unpainted aluminum skinned aircraft of the time period. It was also errily quiet, and the gallery quite unaccidentally captures the ominous feeling of the early atomic threat.

This picture is about the closest I could get to accurately depicting the size of this museum. This is only one of three massive hangers this size. Behind me is a C-124, and the Korean war aircraft, and behind the B-52 is prettymuch everything from the Vietnam USAF inventory.
