The Rocky Mountains. Just beyond those ridges is the Continental Divide.

Wow, look at that! Excellent shot, Bill

Final approach to KGTF, paying more attention to the camera than the VASI. Good thing runway 21 is 10500' X 150', and can accomodate a C-5 if needed. Freakin student pilots.

Time to turn around before it gets bumpy.

Those mountains are nearly 30 miles away.

No wonder his landings suck, look at those glasses!

The airport at Fort Benton, MT. One of my checkpoints in between Great Falls, and Big Sandy.

On the ground, Big Sandy, MT. My first cross country flight, about 75 miles northeast of Great Falls.

3U8, or Big Sandy's 3600' X 60' runway wasn't small by any means, but a whole lot less forgiving on the novice pilot than the massive runway I was used to in Great Falls. Note the grass and the slight crosswind, my legs had that jell-o feeling when I took this picture just after shutting it down.

Following the Missouri River east, before turning north, VFR cross country to Big Sandy MT.

Following the road back to Great Falls.

Chasing Antelope with a Cessna, somewhere south of Conrad, Montana. Harassing wildlife with an aircraft is perfectly legal in Montana.

Great Falls Int'l Airport, and its massive six gates.

The runway at Big Sandy. Note the small paved area , and the yellow line to the left of the number 6. That is the run-up area that I had parked at and taken the pictures on the ground.

On my downwind, to Runway 21, practicing some touch and go's after my experience in Big Sandy.

|
Not what you would consider busy airspace, the KGTF tower cleared me to fly over the city for photographs, and to "take my time" as the nearest traffic was 50 miles out.

The airstrip in Lincoln, Montana, home of the Unabomber. Had we been here several years earlier, we could have possibly been shot at by him as shooting at aircraft from mountains was a hobby of his.
