Lucky few snag pricele$$ seats

In a tireless show of ticket tenacity, Patrick Shaughnessy was the first to walk proudly away tonight with a $75 ticket for a seat atop the Green Monster.
“It’s an amazing feeling. I’m in shock,” Shaughnessy said while watching the players take batting practice.
The 19-year-old Plymouth State student, who camped out at Fenway since Sunday, was among the lucky few to score a last-minute seat tonight.
Only a few other weary fans were able to cheer and hug as they walked away with a coveted ticket.
Laura Washburn, 21, a Northeastern University student, was also allowed to pay a mere $75 for a bleacher seat to Game 1.
“It’s amazing. I’m shaking,” she said.
The Red Sox [team stats] placed more than 400 tickets up for sale tonight, giving loyal fans the only low-cost shot at a seat inside baseball heaven.
For those with tickets, nothing dampened their spirit as they started pouring into Fenway Park [map] to see what now appears to be a blowout.
With the Sox clobbering the Rockies 13 to 1 in the eighth inning, Sox fan Nick Cannata called it a great way to start the series.
"I’m confident but I’m not ready to call the whole series right now," said Cannata, a 28-year-old engineer from Worcester.
"I don’t think all the games will be this easy, but I think we’ll take the World Series," said Liz Brownell, a nanny from North Andover.
They are among the lucky ones enjoying the game inside the park.
Desperation was thick on Lansdowne Street earlier as the lines for tickets grew by the hour, with some die-hard fans waiting in line since Sunday for tickets to tonight’s Game 1of the World Series.
Red Sox officials handed out dozens and dozens of vouchers to only a fraction of the hundreds of people in line. The vouchers only guarantee you a space in line.
Shaughnessy was thrilled to get a voucher.
“I now know I’m going to see the Red Sox Game 1 from a seat. It’s an amazing feeling,” said Shaughnessy.
